Mariner Program (1962-1975)

Between 1962 and 1975, the Mariner missions conducted the first surveys of our planetary neighbors in space, being designed to investigate Mars, Venus and Mercury. Of the ten vehicles in the Mariner series, seven were successful and three were lost.

To date, Mariner 10 is the only spacecraft ever to perform up-close observations of Mercury.
